

Emmanouil Glynos is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering of the University of Crete. He received his PhD in Materials Science, in in the core subject of Polymer Physics, at the University of Edinburgh in 2007. From 2008 until 2013 he did his postdoctoral research at the Department of Material Science and Engineering at the University of Michigan and in 2013, he was appointed as a Research Investigator at the University of Michigan, at the Center for Solar and Thermal Energy Conversion. From 2015 to 2021 he was a Research Scientist at FORTH/IESL. He has published 48 papers in referred international journals, 1 book chapter and 6 in Peer-Reviewed Conference Proceedings. His work has received 1659 citations with an h-index = 24 and i10-index = 39 (as given by Scopus on 8 December 2021). His work has been presented in more than 80 times in International Conferences and Colloquia; 14 invited in International Meetings and 18 invited at Universities and Research Centers.

Sophia Sotiropoulou is physicist, University of Athens (1991), post graduated in Physical methods in Archaeology and Museography, Univ. of Bordeaux (1993) and PhD in Chemical Engineering at the NTUA (2000). She is devoted to heritage science, conducting research in the development of analytical strategies and optimization of methodologies for the study of a wide range of archaeological materials, artworks and heritage objects or structures. She has been specialized in applying imaging techniques, optical, photometric and spectroscopic methods for the analysis of materials, the study of mechanisms of natural aging and the characterization of paint surfaces (including optical, chemical and visually perceptible properties) of heritage objects.

Dr. Vassilis Papadakis is an Assistant Professor at the University of West Attica. He has more than 20 years of experience in research and education in Greece and abroad. He has worked and lectured as a researcher at the Technical University of Delft, the Foundation for Research and Technology, the University of Crete, and the Hellenic Mediterranean University in topics related to diagnosis and imaging.
Vassilis M. Papadakis was a research associate at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas. He was the founder and head of the Bio NDT lab.
His main research interests are in applied physics and in particular in imaging and spectroscopic applications. He is interested in the characterization of bio-materials, ranging from DNA, proteins, live cells, and tissues.
He has strong experience in developing imaging spectroscopy instrumentation, including multi- and hyper-spectral imaging systems and applying a wide range of techniques, including reflection and absorption spectral imaging, Raman and FTIR spectroscopy, and cavity ring-down spectroscopy. He has worked on analyzing materials from medicine, biology, cultural heritage, aerospace, and others.
He has published more than 55 papers in international journals and more than 50 conference presentations.

Dr. Vassilios Binas is Assistant Professor at the Department of Chemistry, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and Associated Researcher at the Institute of Electronic Structure and Laser (IESL) of the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH). He has served as Visiting Researcher at Imperial College-UK (2015), International Institute of New Energy, Shenzhen, China (2014), International Research Center for Renewable Energy (IRCRE) School of Energy & Power Engineering, Xi’an, China (2014) and at Electronic Ceramics-K5, Institut ‘Josef Stefan’, Slovenia (2013). He is visiting professor at Department of Physics of UoC since 2016, lecturing the course of Electron Microscopy and Materials Science and Engineering.
His work in nanomaterials for energy, and environmental applications, from design, synthesis, characterization of nanomaterials (such as oxides, hybrids etc), fabrication (additive manufacturing) and study of their physicochemical properties for environmental applications with particular emphasis on photocatalytic nanomaterials (for improved air, water and health quality) and materials for gas sensing to detect toxic gases, and for energy applications (energy storage, CO oxidation, CO2 transformation, water splitting, H2 production etc)
He is co-author of more than 80 peer-reviewed papers and inventor on 5 patents. He won important scientific prizes and awards in Competitions of Innovation and Applied Research (>20) and gave more than 40 invited lectures including 1 Key-note in international scientific conferences and workshops. He has been selected as a next generation Young Researcher in Strasbourg on 2013 and 2017 at the 4th and 6th World Summit on Materials organized by the Int. Union of Materials Research Societies (IUMRS) and he is one of the two European Representatives in the Global Materials Network on Advanced Materials.

Xenophon Zotos obtained his BSc in Physics from the University of Athens in 1976 and his PhD in Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics from the University of Virginia (USA) in 1983. He has been a research associate at the University of Southern California, Bell Labs (USA) from 1982 until 1986 and a researcher at the University of Karlsruhe (Germany) from 1986 until 1991. Following that he was researcher at the Federal Polytechnical School - Lausanne & University of Fribourg (Switzerland) until 2003 when he was elected a Professor at the University of Crete. He served as the Chairman of the Department of Physics from 2011 until 2015.
