Niklas is an environmental Archaeologist, who is interested in the geochemical analysis of marine shells to determine short-term climatic fluctuations in the past.
He was employed at IESL-FORTH for two years to develop an efficient way of analysing archaeological shell remains using LIBS as part of his EU-funded Marie Curie Project.
In 2021 he started a new research group at the Leibniz Research Institute for Archaeology in Mainz (Germany) in which he and his team apply LIBS to archaeological shells from the Mediterranean dating to the Neolithic period.
