Ms. Antony Vidhu Catherine

05/2021 – today PhD Student on BEC1

Vidhu did her Bachelor of Science (Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science – Triple Major) at Bangalore University (Wiki), from which she graduated second of her class (Gold Medalist).

During the final year of her Bachelor’s Program, she was selected for the prestigious Indian Academy of Science (IASc) – Summer Research Fellowship Program (SRFP) – 2017 at the Quantum Materials and Devices Group (formerly known as the Low-Temperature Nano-Electronics Group), Department of PhysicsIndian Institute of Science, Bangalore, under Prof Arindam Ghosh.

After working as a Project Trainee in the same group, she continued with her Master of Science (Physics) at Bangalore University and graduated top of her class (Gold Medalist). Her master’s project was on Quantum Computation, Estimating Pi using Quantum Phase Estimation Algorithm, which she runs on the public access quantum computer of IBM (Qiskit)

Following her masters, she joined as a Project Assistant / Junior Research Fellow (JRF) at the Quantum Optics and Quantum Information Processing Group, Department of Instrumentation and Applied Physics, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.

At the moment she is awaiting her visa which has been delayed due to COVID restrictions.

Irene Malegiannaki studied chemistry at the Chemistry Department of the University of Crete (B.Sc.) and received her M.Sc. degree in Physical Chemistry from the same department, in 2020. She joined IESL-FORTH for her MSc thesis focused on Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) for the analysis of both biogeochemical archives for paleoenvironmental studies and archaeological bronze objects. In 2021, she continued with an Erasmus traineeship at the University of Malaga Laser Lab focusing on LIBS analysis of single particles in an optical trap.

In 2021, she received a scholarship to pursue her Ph.D. within the DEEPICE  MSCA ITN project at the Niels Bohr Institute - University of Copenhagen, under the supervision of Asist. Prof. Vasileios Gkinis, Prof. Dorthe-Dahl Jensen (Niels Bohr Institute - University of Copenhagen) and Prof. Carlo Barbante (Ca’ Foscari University of Venice). She is working on the development of an innovative instrument which couples Laser Ablation with Cavity Ring Down Spectroscopy for high quality water isotopic measurements of the Beyond EPICA Oldest Ice core which will be extracted from East Antarctica and it will potentially cover climate history of 1.5 million years.
